SpaceX: The future of launch tech?

This morning, I re-read a Discover article from last year about SpaceX a company that is striving to decrease the cost of rocket launches and push forward the comercialization of space.

The founder, Elon Musk (one of the co-founders of PayPal), says that one of the reasons he started SpaceX was to “back up the bio-sphere.” He wants to help make a self-sustaining Mars Colony a reality to prevent the extinction of humanity in the event of catastrophe, man-made or otherwise.

Overall, I think that is a damn fine idea. I also like the idea of business wedded to idealism; it gives me hope for our species.
