I like hanging out with other geeks

Today, we played D&D but if you’ve read my preceding post then you alread knew that was the plan.

In addition, we had br/lunch with our group and SOs before the game at Cliffbreakers, a restaurant in Rockford. Billed as an all-you-can-drink champagne brunch, Britt and I attended entirely for the social aspect.

Cliffbreakers, I’ve got to say, did not so much impress. The food was merely acceptable, nothing there particularly impressive bad or good, and hella expensive for a buffet. Although, I suppose it would have been reasonable if I had wanted to drink lots of champagne on a Sunday afternoon.

Afterward, the gaming occured. For several hours we battled the minions of Hopps to defend an island of crazy pseudo-Italians from invasion and enslavement. In the end, we were triumphant and now we have to decide which island we’ll visit next so we can fix their problems and, hopefully, convince them to join our side instead of the other side. Such is the life of a D&D diplomat.

After gaming, we sat down to dinner with the group + SOs again. The dinner of chili and cornbread, prepared and presented with wonderful flair by Carlos, was kindly provided by Jeff and Carlos. There was much pleasant conversation, a non-insignificant amount of the geeky variety.

All in all, it was a pretty good day. We’re going to have to do it again soon.

    Triumphant is relative.

I got shot in the face and nearly died!

Well sure, but in D&D you only lose if you actually die.
