Solo Play: Age of Empires III the Boardgame

I’ve been playing a lot of solo Agricola lately so, this morning, I wasn’t too surprised to awaken with a framework for playing Age of Empires III the Boardgame solo.

Per the normal rules, you receive 5 colonists each turn with which to take actions. However, instead of 3 colonists to score a region, it now requires 5.

Your goal at the end of the game is to score 50 points or more.

Scoring is as follows:

  • 6 points for each colony with at least 4 colonists (rather than the usual 3) in it at the end of each Age.

Score for the following at game end:

  • 1 point for each ship. -4 points if you have no ships.
  • 1 point for every 2 Trade Goods. 1 point for every set of 3 Trade Goods or 2 points for every set of 4. -4 points if you have no Trade Goods.
  • 1 point for every Capital Building. -4 points if you have no Capital Buildings.
  • 1 point for every colony Discovered. -4 points for each colony that you haven’t discovered.

I’m still trying to decide if points should be awarded/lost for Specialists. Probably not.

When I get time to playtest, I’ll make another post with any adjustments.
