I really love going to the Origins Game Fair. It is four fun-filled days of hanging out with friends, playing games, and relaxing.

Usually when I go I spend most of the weekend playing boardgames. There are always new games to try, demos to try at various dealer’s booths, and, oh, the shopping. Like I said, it’s a good time.

What I don’t usually do at Origins is play roleplaying games, which seems a little odd when I think about it too hard. Really, though, Origins is not a roleplaying convention, in my mind. Part of that is due to the sheer amount of boardgaming available and part of that is probably due to my inability to get into a f***ing RPG event.

What I’m annoyed about here is the Origins registration system. Event registration started at 11am local time yesterday after being delayed almost a week due to technical issues. At 11am yesterday I was neck deep in college students who wanted me to buy their textbooks.

There was no reasonable way for me to register for an event before last night. By last night, all of the events I was interested in were gone which is where me being annoyed comes in.

It’s great that they’ve got this online registration system. I realize that no matter what time they pick it will probably inconvenience someone. That still doesn’t stop me from being annoyed about the situation right now.

Damn it.

Every year they have a clunky terrible system that screws up utterly. Then they get it working, and it’s actually pretty slick.
Then they throw the whole thing out again next year.

They’ve actually taken registration down AGAIN because of how broken it was.

I was also unable to register for a lot of what I wanted. I am very excited to be going as well though.
