Game Stores

I love game stores, preferably well run and maintained. Last weekend, one of the guys in my gaming group said that he didn’t care whether Rockford (the place he lives) had a gaming store or not because he’d never been there.

This made me sad, not just because I love game stores but because without Tomorrow is Yesterday neither of us would have our gaming group.

When I first moved back to the Midwest, I spent a lot of time looking for, and trying to connect with, gamers in the area. Some of that was accomplished online but a large part of that was visiting area game stores and putting up bright yellow index-cards with my info on them.

Of the five people in our gaming group: one is me, one is my wife, two found me through a bright yellow index-card at Tomorrow is Yesterday, and one found me through the internet.

So, without that game store, the one he said he didn’t care whether it existed, that guy I game with probably wouldn’t be playing games with me, wouldn’t have gone to Origins last year, wouldn’t have been introduced to Amber, Mutants & Masterminds, or many of the boardgames that we play together now.

It’s like It’s a Wonderful Life but with gaming. ::sniffle::

Remember, every time you buy a pack of Magic from your FLGS, an angel gets its wings
