BNW: After the Pause

After a month-long hiatus, the gaming group got together on Sunday to play my Brave New World campaign.

The session started with a longer-than-usual socialization period, which wasn’t unexpected since we hadn’t gotten together as a group for a while. The lengthy break also resulted in greater restlessness and distraction, even after play had begun, so it wasn’t the most productive of sessions.

Our heroes spent some time debating about whether they would join the Protectors of the Planet because of Overwatch’s government-agent status. He was concerned that there would be a conflict of interest. Unsurprising, considering that the remaining Protectors have been organizing ‘franchise groups’ in an effort to head off troublesome government regulation of meta-humans.

Once we got into the action, our heroes were called in to investigate a museum theft of an Egyptian mummy and associated artifacts. Investigation ensued leading to several interesting puzzle pieces, including several near-immortal folks, some new villains, and some concern that the mummy was stolen to be ressurected.

The group tracked down the villains with some old fashioned leg-work but were unable to positively identify them before they teleported away. This lead to a confrontation later when the nefarious duo attempted to break into a bank vault to procure the final artifact which was being kept there.

Our heroes thwarted the bank robbery, capturing one of the villains in the process. We’ll see how that turns out in the end . . .

They also spoke to the lawyer of Elliot Mann, one of the apparent immortals, in an attempt to secure the final artifact against further theft but were assured that Mr. Mann was taking precautions.

The session wrapped up there, leaving the adventure hanging in the middle. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get together again soon to resolve things but I don’t have high hopes. Summer is a busy time with conventions, vacations, and visits to family/friends. We’ll see if we can mesh our schedules.
