Torchwood: Children of Earth

Recently, I’ve been watching Torchwood: Children of Earth which appears to be Torchwood‘s third season. So far, it’s dark, darker even than the previous two seasons. Good, though.

For those unaware, Torchwood is a spin-off series from the new Doctor Who series. The premise is sort of like the X-files but with much less mystery and more sex. Torchwood, the organization, has a mandate to fight aliens and to lock-up alien technology to prevent it from harming the human race.

The appeal of Torchwood, as a series, is much different than that of Doctor Who. Where Doctor Who is an optimistic, exuberant, head-long adventure, Torchwood is a harsh, frightening, head-long exploration of what happens when an unprepared humanity and aliens collide.

It’s hard not to like Doctor Who. The same cannot be said of Torchwood. I enjoy it but I imagine that it’s not a show for everyone.
