ACNW: Thursday

Britt and I got up early yesterday to get me on a a flight from Milwaukee to Minneapolis to Portland for AmberCon North West. Not too early happily, though I still felt pretty tired by the end of the day.

My time in airports was fairly minimal though I discovered that Wi-Fi in airports is apparently no longer free. I could have signed up for Boingo (the pay wifi service they kept pointing me at) but James tells me that it’s a costly and annoying service so I’m glad I didn’t.

My first game of the convention, after the reception that I’ll talk about shortly, was Sign of the Unicorn and Zombies. If you’re familiar with the book with the same title (minus the Zombies), the game set us up with the same situation as the characters in the novel but, you know, rather than being written by an author we were PCs. Yeah, for those of you unfamiliar with this concept, this only leads to the crazy. Oh, and there were Zombies. It was pretty amusing as a first game.

The reception mentioned above was 100+ Amber players in a room eating h’or d’oeuvres, socializing, and briefly discussing convention business. As I knew few people at the reception and I was feeling the effects of my travel particularly heavily, I, shockingly, was not terribly social.

This morning, I’m feeling pretty good. I took the second game slot off so I’m thinking of checking out the soaking pool and/or taking a nap before I run my game of the convention in slot three.
